    Need a little less freak-out in your Halloween, and a little more cute-cute? Try this supremely simple idea for Halloween Mummy Fruit!

    This recipe is about as adorable as the holiday gets, they're wildly easy to make, and so colorful and fun that even little kids can get in on the action without getting skurred!

    Line up your ingredients. Just a few supremely simple things are all you need: apples or bananas, Fruit by the Foot fruit snacks, and candy eyeballs. How easy is this edible craft?!

    Once you've cleaned the fruit, wrap the Fruit by the Foot around it, mummy style. I found it was easiest and least sticky to wrap the fruit as I was unwrapping the fruit snack roll.

    For proper wrappage, make sure you vary the Fruit by the Foot angles to give it a frightfully mummy-like look!

    Once you've mummified your fruit, press candy eyeballs onto it to make the eyes stick right into place and give your mummies some seriously fab personality!

    How do you like them apples?! (munch-munch-munch)

Halloween Mummy Brownies

Growing up, our Mom went all out for Halloween. She made it such a fun, magical holiday for us and we would celebrate all October long.

I loved helping her in the kitchen, especially when she was making delicious baked goods.

Nothing would bring our family together more than cooking and eating together in the kitchen and these holiday treats are part of some of our favorite childhood memories!

Now that you are sick of my rambling, let’s get to the Mummy Brownie recipe!

You could use boxed brownies for this recipe if you are short on time, but these homemade brownies are our family’s favorite recipe!


Halloween Mummy Hand Pies Make a Berry Frightening Treat

Turn your favorite fruit-filled pie into a handheld spooky treat.

These hand pies will be the scariest treats anyone will eat all Halloween-and the most delicious, too. You can make the pie dough ahead of time and even cut it into shapes in advance. When you&aposre ready to bake, the mummies will come together quickly. And when you&aposre ready to serve, they will disappear even more quickly!

Ingredients

1/2 recipe of a favorite berry pie filling (Try Blueberry Pie or Berry Pie)

16 mini chocolate-coated candies

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare pie dough or bring to room temperature if you made it earlier. Divide dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll one half of the dough into a 10-by-12-inch rectangle. Using a small chef&aposs knife or a pizza cutter, cut into eight 3-by-5-inch rectangles. For the mummy cloth layers: Roll the other half of the dough approximately 1/8 inch thick and cut into 1/4-inch-wide strips, 3 to 4 inches long. You will need 8 to 10 strips per pie.

2. Crimp the edges of each rectangle to make a slightly raised edge. Brush with egg wash, then spoon filling inside each rectangle.

3. Place dough strips over filling of each pie in a random, wrapped-like pattern. Pinch the edges of the dough strips into the crust to secure. Brush tops of each pie with egg wash then sprinkle with sugar. Transfer to a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet.

4. Bake until juices are bubbling and tops are golden brown, 45 to 50 minutes. (Tent with foil if crusts are getting too dark.) Let cool completely.


Easy Mummy Stromboli

Looking for a spooky, fun and tasty way to celebrate Halloween? Our Easy Mummy Stromboli is your ticket to a winning meal! I share both the super simple pre-made version, and also a homemade dough and sauce version.

Halloween night is always one of the toughest when it comes to getting the kids to eat “real” food before heading out for SUGAR. This Easy Mummy Stromboli recipe is perfect just for that reason. It’s something the kids will LOVE, and will definitely eat before they start trick or treating.

Halloween night made easy!

This recipe can also be made with either store bought or semi homemade ingredients. Halloween night made easy! I’m not sure who first made Mummy Stromboli, but we used the Pillsbury website for inspiration. They of course use Pillsbury dough, but homemade is not difficult and takes this mummy meal to a whole new level! Kathleen, my amazing assistant made the Stromboli in this post that is wider and filled it with ham and pepperoni! If you want your Stromboli to be wider, use all of the ingredients to make one large Stromboli and bake about 8-10 minutes longer.

Easy Mummy Stromboli can be made ahead and reheated, perfect for any busy night! Make it the day before, and the only thing you have to worry about is turning on the oven the next day. It’s so festive, and who doesn’t love Stromboli, filled with savory meats and cheeses and wrapped in a warm, soft crust? Oh my. It’s as good as it sounds, and looks! And the idea of eating a mummy will make any kid happy!

Here’s what you’ll need for your easy mummy Stromboli: If going the quick and easy route, buy the ingredients listed below and follow the instructions on the recipe for assembly and baking. For the easy “semi-homemade” version, you’ll need:

  1. Two frozen loaves of Rhodes bread or two pizza crusts refrigerated.
  2. One 12 – 15 oz can or jar of pizza sauce
  3. One 12 oz browned sausage drained and/or 12-16 oz pepperoni and/or ham sliced
  4. About 4 cups grated mozzarella cheese (or a blend of mozzarella, cheddar and provolone)
  5. Black olives for the eyes

Weaving or braiding the mummy dough

The mummy is really easy to put together. Simply roll out the dough into a rectangle and the spread the sauce down the middle, top with meats, cheese and then cut both sides into 1/2 inch strips. Then it’s just a matter of alternating the dough back and forth, folding toward the middle to make the mummy pattern. I suggest doing this on the cookie sheet you are using to bake so you don’t have to transfer the mummy after it is filled and formed.

Homemade dough and make ahead!

If you want to make homemade dough, you’ll need a few ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. The homemade version is so good and takes just a few minutes to make the dough. If you want to make the dough ahead, you can make it the day before and place in a gallon size Ziplock bag and seal. Place in fridge for no more than 24 hours. See recipe notes for tips!

If you want your mummy to be more wide than skinny, use all of the dough to make one mummy as seen below!

Halloween dinner ideas

East your Easy Mummy Stromboli on a napkin (for easy clean up) or a plate. You can also serve this with this festive Sugar Cookie Skull, also perfect for Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead celebrations, Pumpkin Cheese Ball (photo above) and Pumpkin Sheet Cake.
